Teaching Resources


To meet the professional development needs of EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction), a dedicated community has been established to assist teachers in collective growth. The EMI Teacher Specialization and Growth Community serve as a platform for sharing information, exchanging ideas, discussing issues, disseminating methods, and learning among EMI teachers at our university.

Through activities organized by the EMI community, the goal is to promote peer learning among teachers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement in EMI teaching quality. The outcomes of community efforts are compiled into an EMI Teacher Training Manual, which provides core principles of EMI teaching, effective teaching strategies, and relevant teaching resources, ensuring the sustainable development of EMI teaching competencies among faculty members.

EMI Seed Teachers


To promote EMI teaching, representatives from each college/school are appointed as EMI Seed Teachers. The members include teachers who have received EMI-related training or have taught EMI courses, teachers who desire self-improvement and capacity building, and teachers who are not currently engaged in EMI teaching. The role and task of Seed Teachers are crucial as they will serve as pioneers of EMI teaching within their respective departments and colleges/schools, leading other teachers towards achieving the goal of promoting and enhancing EMI at MCU.

Workshops


To support the MOE's 2030 Bilingual Policy, colleges and universities throughout Taiwan are holding seminars and workshops on EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction) to facilitate mutual learning among higher education teachers nationwide. In order to strengthen the teaching capacity of EMI among faculty members at MCU, we invite domestic and international scholars to hold lectures or workshops on teaching enhancement or practical discussions according to EMI trends and teacher needs, enabling teachers to better understand the implications of EMI teaching and learning, and enriching their teaching innovation. MCU faculty members who have attended any on- and/or off-campus workshops should fill out the record form within the same academic year.

【On-Campus Workshops】
The EMI Seed Teacher Workshop for the academic year 112 was held on April 13th and 20th, 113 (Saturdays), from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Room B901, Taipei Campus. The workshop was led by Professor Chang Hsuan-Hsuan, Dean of the International College, along with Professor Sen Yabar and Professor Yang Hsiao-Kang from the International College, who facilitated discussions on four EMI teaching-related topics.

EMI Research

To advance research in English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) teaching, the research efforts of members from our school's International College and the EMI teacher community are being combined. The research development focuses on two directions: cross-border, cross-domain, cross-national, and cross-disciplinary studies; and research on EMI bilingual teaching, which includes comparative analysis of EMI and non-EMI courses of similar types.

The study "A Comparison of Learning Outcomes between EMI and Non-EMI Courses: A Case Study of 3D Design Software Instruction" was authored by Director Chen Jinghui of the Bachelor of Information Technology Applied Management Program at the International College for the academic year 111.


Incentives


To encourage full-time and project faculty members at our university to participate in the BEST Program, promoting the widespread adoption of EMI, cultivating international talents, and enhancing the internationalization of the campus, we have formulated the """"Ming Chuan University Incentive Measures for Faculty Participation in the BEST Program.""""

Faculty members who contribute to the promotion and implementation of the Program can receive incentive points based on their contributions:

1. Composing content for Program-related project proposals and reports.
2. Serving as a mentor for new EMI teachers.
3. Organizing workshops related to the Programs and EMI (including activities such as career seminars).
4. Writing articles on topics related to the Program and EMI.
5. Implementing research projects related to the Program and EMI.
6. Providing a course for EMI class observation.
7. Organizing EMI multi-faceted course activities.
8. Developing EMI teaching modules.
9. Establishing online EMI digital courses.
10. Undertaking other tasks related to promoting the Program.

Faculty members who attend and participate in Program-related activities or training courses can earn incentive points based on their participations:

1. Participating in the EMI Faculty Development Community.
2. Attending EMI class observations.
3. Participating in on-campus or off-campus EMI training courses (or workshops).

Additionally, upon approval by the EMI Committee, newly offered EMI courses are subject to an additional 0.5 times hourly rate from the university. For faculty members offering a newly established EMI course for the first time, upon meeting the specified requirements, submitting an application, and receiving approval from the EMI Committee, those who successfully launch the course may be eligible for an incentive reward.
